MGA 1500 Supercharged – Refinement and Dyno Tune

We did a sheetmetal and chassis restoration on this MGA 10+ years ago. We then installed a supercharged MGB engine, MGB gearbox, MGB rear axle, and MGB kingpins/brakes. The owner’s vision for the car was to be a sleek, race car inspired restomod and he succeeded. He took the car back to his home in New Jersey once we got the car running, installing the interior and performing other detail work himself, with a little help from some East Coast shops that we’re friends with.

He’s put over 7000 miles on the car since finishing it, but there were a few details he didn’t like and he asked us to help again. Some were pretty straightforward, like installing Lucas Tri-Bar halogen headlights. But he also wanted the front valence to fit better, so we installed a new one (sourced from Auto Vintagery) and spaced it to be flush with the fenders and radiator duct panel.

The owner had never installed the trim strips below the fenders, a detail missing on many MGAs. He had us do that for him, along with some other minor cosmetic corrections to make the car crisper.

We also did some routine maintenance to the car before putting it on our Dynojet for a full tune.

With 6lbs of boost, the car made 91 HP and 108 lbs/ft of torque at the wheels. With more boost, this engine would be in the 120 WHP range, but the owner can run it on regular gas and not worry about anything in this state of tune.

It was fun to have this car back again and satisfying to make it just a little nicer. We’ve greatly appreciated the trust customers like this one have put into us to care for their cars.
