MGB GT V8

This is a rare factory MGB GT V8 that was imported in the 1980s. The owner had a lot of metalwork and the paint done in the early 1990s only to discover that the steering rack wouldn’t fit when he went to reassemble the car–there was previously unnoticed damage to the front frame rails. Our challenge is to straighten the car while preserving the high quality paint work and panel fit.

We put the car up on our big table where we can take accurate measurements for the repairs.

This fixture makes sure the rear end of the car is in an exact position and to factory specification.

We used old-fashioned tape measures and squares as well as lasers to make all of our measurements.

We found the front crossmember bent (not shown) and that the crossmember mounting areas of the front frame rails are out of position. We suspect the crossmember hit an object hard and bent as there is no evidence of other collision damage.

We’ll be replacing portions of the front frame rails with brand new British Motor Heritage parts.
