1974 Porsche 911 – Arrival and assessment

This 1974 Porsche 911 Targa has been sitting in a barn for a while now. The new owner pulled it out and brought it to us to get it back on the road. In the 80s, almost every Porsche got a widebody kit and this car is no exception.

The engine is very leaky and smokes a terrible amount. As part of the project, we’ll be pulling it out and inspecting everything before repairing anything that needs to be fixed and re-sealing the engine so it doesn’t act like a British engine.

The factory air conditioner is bulky and gets in the way of even the most basic maintenance. (Changing spark plugs is a multi-hour ordeal!) We’ll be removing it and later possibly converting it to electric A/C after the first season of driving.

We’ve discovered some problems in the front suspension pan – rust in the front torsion mounts. This is a repair we’ve done before and we will be tackling it again with this car.
