Another photo dump with a lot of details of the repair to the rear corner. We haven’t found a lot of good photos of metalwork repairs to XK120s elsewhere on the internet, so we’re trying to help others working on these cars with our photos.
Anyway, the lower rear corner on the right side was another multi-layered repair. The outer layer had a lot of lead in it and our goal was to have something that would require only a very thin skim of filler.

The outer layer, water/seal channel and inner parts are all separate pieces lap welded together.

This is the repair piece for the fender well.

This is the start of the shaping of the outer piece, which was fairly tricky to make.

These are all the pieces we made for the repair. We made mirrors/duplicates of most of them for the other side of the car.

We then used a combination of MIG, TIG, and spot welding to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
